A dwarf, bushy, and rounded shrub, evergreen broadleaf, it can reach 1 m in height. It is a hardy, slow-growing plant. The trunk is twisted and branched, with pubescent twigs; the bark is black and wrinkled. The evergreen (sometimes semi-evergreen) leaves are oval and narrow at the base (obovate), rounded at the tip, leathery, 8–12 cm long, dark green, shiny on the upper surface, lighter, duller green on the underside. They are gathered in clusters at the tips of the twigs. The flowering is very pleasant due to the pleasant scent of the creamy-white flowers tending towards yellow. They bloom from late April to July, depending on the area. They last a good while on the plant and give off an intense scent, similar to that of orange blossoms, especially after sunset. It is a honey plant. The fruits (red seeds) are enclosed in dark, rounded capsules.
