A bushy, fruit-bearing, deciduous shrub with branched stems up to 2 m tall. Flowers bloom in spring, around April. The fruits are translucent berries, ranging in color from red to pink and yellow to whitish, spherical in shape, with sweet-tart, watery flesh and numerous small seeds. They grow in more or less elongated clusters (up to over 20 cm) depending on the cultivar. The fruits appear and ripen in summer.
