The tree is quite vigorous and can reach 5-6 meters in height. Its leaves are deciduous, smooth, oval, dark green on the upper surface and light green on the underside.
The flowers are white. Flowering occurs in early April, while the fruits are harvested towards the end of August.
The fruit has a round, flattened shape, similar to an apple. The skin is smooth or slightly rough, and is a golden-bronze color.
They have white, tender, juicy, and sweet flesh, with very low acidity. Their texture is firm, juicy, and crunchy, similar to that of traditional pears. Their flavor is sweet and fragrant, with light alcoholic notes.
This species is quite hardy and adapts well to most Italian growing areas. It is particularly weather-resistant, especially to the cold winter months, but can suffer from late frosts that strike during flowering.
The Nashi pear prefers light, fertile soils with a sub-acid reaction, while on soils that are too clayey or calcareous it can manifest problems such as root asphyxia and iron chlorosis.
